How long will it take to complete the course?
How long is a piece of string? We all learn at different rates and have different home and work commitments, so it really does depend on you, as to how long the course will take - you can take as much or as little time as is necessary for your own needs.
What if I cannot do the course for months at a time?
That's fine - the course will always be here when you are ready to come back. People take holidays, become sick, move home, lose their internet connection, get sent away for their work etc. If this happens to you, don't worry - it would be nice if you let me know though so that I don't worry about you when you go missing for months.
I really am like a mother hen with my students and when they go missing (as does one of my students on a regular basis, hopping and skipping all over the world on her travels) I worry when I don't know that they are ok.
How do I do the assignments?
All your work is done online. Well, all the typing you do is online - most of the work goes on inside your head.
You login to the site, click on the course and then the assignment you are working on. Read the instructions and then think about them !!
When you are ready to type up your assignment, click on the 'edit assignment' button underneath the assignment instructions and type away to your hearts content.
When you have finished click the submit button and your assignment will be saved.
The system sends an email to me telling me that you have completed an assignment and I will come into the site and grade your assignment.
What if I don't understand an assignment or am having problems with it?
There is a messaging system on the site which you can use to contact me (available from the home page of the course you are taking) or you can email me or contact me via MSN. I don't publish my MSN online any longer because I get loads of spam. All students are given my MSN identity by private message on joining the course.
You can also leave a message on the forums or come into the chat rooms on the community site.
Why do you encourage people to throw away the books?
Well, its not exactly throw them away - books are useful for seeing other peoples interpretation of the cards. But when you are actually doing a reading you cannot reach for a book to see what the interpretation is.
These courses are about getting your own interpretation fixed firmly in your head but at the same time encouraging you to be flexible with them. As any reader will tell you, if you come up with the same card in the same position for two readings in a row, that card can mean a different thing for each client they are reading for.
In the beginners course, I want you to learn the basic meanings for the card but also to learn to use your intuition. In the advanced course you are encouraged to go really deeply within yourself to understand the various nuances of the cards as they apply to the different situations you will come up against.
You can't learn all this from books - it has to come from within yourself.
The professional course is a little different in that it calls for research into astrological, numerological and the symbolism within the tarot. There books and the internet will definately help with your research.
Dealing with clients also has to come from within yourself and cannot be learnt from books. Becoming a tarot reader isn't all about you, rather it's about your clients and how you can help them. Not everyone is a 'people person' or knows how to deal with every situation or question. The professional course aims to help you with the best way to deal sensitively with your clients.
Why do I have to do the cards in order?
Normally I would say that students can study the cards in any order they wish - that would be the ideal situation. But this is an online course and it's very difficult to keep track of a student if they are jumping from one card to the next. I tried it and it didn't work.
Besides which, the tarot has a natural progression through the cards and suits and it becomes easier to understand if you take them one by one in the order they are presented.
What if I join a course and then find it's too advanced for me?
It's important that you are honest with yourself regarding your current knowledge of the tarot, to ensure that you join the right course. However, if you join the advanced or professional course and then discover that maybe you should have taken an earlier course, we will be happy to transfer you.
